Who would have thought that moving to another ISP would be so stressful.
Below are the services that would be affected by the move:
1. ADSL account
2. Web Hosting
So I found a company that could supply the above mentioned services.
Firstly, the domain needed to be moved from my current ISP to the new ISP.
I thought this would be simple, as I have done this before with my personal domains.
Once the domain was moved to the new ISP, that’s when all the “fun” began. Emails were not being delivered to the user because the MX records had not been propagated. That’s when I found out about a zone file. All of this was new to me.
The ADSL router that was supplied was configured by the new ISP according to our specs. The router had a fixed public IP address. Fo some reason, the internet connection was intermittent. I found this very strange. I even went as far as getting the router swapped out. That didn’t solve the problem. After much stuggling, I realised that the CISCO firewall was causing the problem. It was actually trying to help, but causing a problem at the same time.
So the CISCO firewall configuration needed to be changed to cater for the new settings from the ISP. The CISCO firewall was actually handling all the traffic – Internet (HTTP), FTP and Mail. I didn’t realise this because I was not the one that initially configured that CISCO firewall.
