Comparison between iOS 6 and 7

A First Look At iOS 7

So it looks like Apple is almost ready to release iOS 7.
Users of the iPhone, iPod and iPad should receive the update around September 2013.
The UI looks quite different to iOS 6.
At a glance you will notice that the icons have been drastically changed.
They look flat, the colours and pictures are also different.
Take a look at the screenshots below.

Comparison between iOS 6 and 7

According to Apple, their goal was to create a simpler, more useful and enjoyable user experience.

Below are some of the key areas that have been updated:

1. Control Center
The control center gives you quick access to settings like, Airplane Mode, WiFi (On or Off) and Brightness.
No need to download a flashlight app.
I’ve been wanting to download a flashlight app. Looks like I don’t have to anymore.
This version of iOS includes a Flashlight feature.

2. Notification Center
Today is a new feature of the notification center that gives you a summary of the day.

3. Multitasking
iOS 7 will learn when you like to use your applications.
I’m sure this feature can be very useful to some people.
So, if I check Twitter everyday at 08:00am when I get to the office, iOS will learn that I like to open Twitter at that time of the day.
It will then update the content for me and have it ready for viewing.
I will wait to see how this actually works.

4. Camera
All shooting formats have been grouped – Still, Video, Panorama…
New filters have been added to give your photos cool effects – Black and White, Retro…
Filters can be applied before or after the photo have been taken.

5. Photos
Photos and videos are grouped in a smart manner.
Grouping by Year, then Collection (example: Cape Town), then Moments by date and location (example: Table Mountain).
This should make finding a particular photo very easy.

6. AirDrop
I guess this is Apple’s answer to NFC.
Allows sharing of contacts, photos, video.
The sharing is done via WiFi or Bluetooth.
The transfers are all encrypted which is awesome.
An added bonus is that the two devices do not need to touch each other.

7. Safari
Finally, the browser has a unified, smart search field.
You are able to navigate, back and forward through pages with a simple swipe.
The tab view has also been updated.

8. iTunes Radio
You can now stream all your favourite radio stations to your device.

9. Siri
The new male and female speech patterns make it easier to understand.
Siri can answer questions quicker than before.

Conclusion
This version of iOS looks like a winner to me.
I guess I will have to wait for the official release to actually confirm that.
You can share your views on this topic.
Let me know what you think about the new iOS, even though the final release is not available?

Until next time good people.
Take care.
